The late Professor Oldrich Hungr pioneered landslide hazard prediction and mitigation for practical engineering. I first met him in 2012 during my PhD studies where I presented my research to him as he served on the hong kong slope safety technical review board. We then developed a mentor/mentee relationship. He would never hesitate to help provide me with a reference letter when I was looking for an academic job. This job hunting process lasted a long time and he wrote many letters. Thank you Prof. Hungr. I am finally employed now. This award is also a testament of the global leaders in slope safety and landslides that Hong Kong, China, trains. My research team will continue to dedicate our work to advance the state-of-the-art in landslide hazard mitigation.
